History

The Beer Essentials was established in August 2001 by former King & Barnes retail sales manager, Gareth Jones.

"After 14 years with King & Barnes I was very sad when the brewery was sold and closed down in July 2000. However, as I was keen to keep selling real beer I began planning the opening of my own shop the day the closure was announced."

Now, nearly four years on The Beer Essentials is an oasis of real beer in the conservation area of Horsham town centre.

The Shop

There are around 150 bottled beers and ciders to choose from with new lines arriving all the time. However, the special thing about The Beer Essentials is that you can buy real draught beer straight from the cask and ready to drink in 4 pint and 8 pint refillable containers. There are usually 4 or 5 real ales available (although at the time of writing there are 9!) ranging in strength from 3.5% to 6% ABV and also 1 or 2 ciders. Customers are able to taste the draught products affording a unique opportunity to compare and contrast different styles. The draught beers are generally changed monthly but check the What's On Draught and Coming Soon pages for special one-off brews.

Larger sized beer containers are also available for collection from the shop. 17 pints and 34 pints are sold in boxed plastic containers with a tap and 72 pints sold in a metal barrel (including free loan of a tap and a cradle to keep the barrel on). These larger quantities are perfect for parties, weddings or indeed any celebration when only real will do. Prices start from £26.55 for 17 pints and the beer is available "bright" i.e. ready to drink.
